Electricity in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and in most of the continent is 220/240 volts. Most safari lodges and camps are not connected to an electrical supply. Solar lighting (backed up by batteries) is common, with many lodges having a generator, which runs part of the day (morning and late evening when guests are out on their activities). Lanterns also provide light at night. In many camps running on solar power, you will not be able to use a hairdryer.

Tanzania is a good birding destination - estimated with 800 species are resident and nearly 200 are regular migrant. However, Migrants are present from November to April.

December to February and June to July is the best time to visit Kibale Forest National Park - during the dry season. However, you may also see the migratory birds.

April up to October is the best time to visit Hwange National Park - Wildlife viewing in the dry season is better since the waterhole becomes a place where animals gather.

Whether you are in the Southern or East Africa you will generally be able to see the big five. The difference really comes in when considering antelope as they are based on your chosen location.

Besides for Uganda being a great place to see the iconic, gorillas or chimpanzees of Africa, it also has a world of bird life with half of Africa’s bird species being found in Uganda. Make sure you pack binoculars.
